They started making the women believe that the relationship between a husband and his wife is not confined to this life (janma). The name of the act is SATI. Literally meaning, an admirable wife. The actual term is ‘Sati Saha Gamanam’. Literally meaning, ‘the company of the wife’ (with the husband into the funeral pyre). The Hindu Nationalist Parties have created so much hype about this, that there is a very high reverence given to any woman dying in this manner. There is a big temple constructed in Rajasthan by the name ‘Sati Maa Ki Mandir’ meaning, the temple of the mother Sati.
