Conclusions

Protection and conservation of the environment is an important and vital human issue. As such, it is also an Islamic issue because man is its center, aim, subject, end and means at the same time. If, however, the problem in the past was how to protect man against the natural environment and its elements, the problem now is how to protect the environment and its living and natural resources from man and his harmful activities for the sake and benefit of all mankind.

The remedy lies in the direction and guidance of man and the society, their targets, objectives, planning and action. Materialism and materialistic considerations are the main cause of distress and unhappiness. Also technological progress cannot and should not be achieved at the expense of man's health, happiness, livelihood or survival. Similarly, we should not sacrifice the coming generations for the sake of any doubtful material or economic benefit for the contemporary human generation.

The overall comprehensive attitude of Islam to man, without any discrimination based on time, age, place or race is the only way out of all problems.

Therefore, without qualification, it is imperative to take the following principles into consideration:

  1. Improving, developing and disseminating scientific and technological knowledge so that existing environmental damage may be rectified and, in the same way, planning for development projects should be designed to achieve all objectives for the overall welfare of all mankind without causing any damage to nature, the environment (both physical and social) and the natural resources.
  2. Consideration of all aspects of the environment, including both the aesthetic and sanitary points of view, during the study and adoption of any development project.
  3.

  4. The environment and the natural resources should not be abused or damaged for the purposes of any military or hostile actions.
  5. Developmental actions and projects undertaken in one country should not lead to or result in any kind of damage, harm or degradation in the natural environment of another country. Private or local progress should not be achieved at the expense of others, or through damage or anything that leads to damage to others.

In view of the aforementioned, Islam welcomes any regional or international endeavor in the field of conservation and invites all concerted, joint, and co-operative efforts in all fields to establish a balanced and planned international system for the protection and conservation of man and his environment and for the maintenance and perpetuation of a suitable prosperous life for the present and future generations.

Finally, Praise be to God, The Cherisher and Sustainer of the World Allah is our Ultimate Satisfaction.
