PREFACE |
|
At
the present time, there is world concern about increasing alcohol use and
gambling.
Most of the countries are therefore, facing growing problems
arising from these diabolic acts.
The
intoxicating liquor and gambling are the most vicious curses to humanity.
They have ruined innumerable lives, shuttered multitudes of
homes, and caused more misery to mankind than all other vices put
together.
The civilized countries have failed to ban the brewing, purveying
and consumption of intoxicants because the traffic in alcoholic liquor
brings them huge revenues which they dislike losing.
Wine-drinking
is a serious crime.
A drunkard in intoxication is deprived of making distinction
between right and wrong, virtue and vice, good and evil.
His actions result into enmity and hated which disturb the peace
and tranquillity of the society.
Gambling is also a sin which destroys our wealth.
These moral vices are injurious to the healthy atmosphere of the
society.
Islam
stands unique among all religions and among all systems, in the
prohibition of wine and gambling and in basing that prohibition on reason.
This book offers a study of the successful movement of Islam in its
endeavor to eradicate the evils of wine-drinking and gambling.
This
book is not intended to be the last word on the subject.
It is, however, hoped that the people who sincerely want to
understand the subject will find enough material in it for their
satisfaction. In the end, I must express my gratitude to my younger brother Mr. Muhammad Ikram Siddiqi for making useful suggestions regarding this book.
